Obafemi Martins is gradually working his way back to full fitness after a surgery from a serious injury.

Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has resumed training in Lagos Nigeria, after a long-term injury he suffered in April 2018.

The 33-year-old Martins suffered the injury which was expected to keep him out for seven months in an Asian Champions League game played between Shanghai Shenhua and Kashima Antlers club played on Wednesday, April 4.

The veteran forward was considered by Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr for a place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, for his fine form during the season but the injury ruled him out of contention.

However, according to a report by Complete Sports, Martins is trying to get back into shape before the due date of his anticipated return.

According to the report, Martins who had a successful surgery in London is making his gradual recovery and rehabilitation procedures after his injury.

In the report, Martins stated that he is working in the gym and is already eyeing a comeback to the pitch with his teammates.

He said, “My rehabilitation is going very well. I work at the gym every day. I can’t wait to resume with my teammates.”

Martins had a successful surgery after the injury and will hope to continue his good form since he moved to Chinese Super League (CSL) side Shanghai Shenhua in 2015 where he has contributed goals in a total of 40 league appearances before his injury.
